Accidents keeping emergency responders busy
Emergency responders were busy with numerous car accidents Tuesday afternoon as snow continued to fall, making roads slushy.
Two women were injured and transported to Allegheny Valley Hospital in a three-vehicle accident on Route 356 in Buffalo Township around 1:15 p.m.
The accident involved three SUVs, said Kip Johnston, Buffalo Township fire captain. The third vehicle had two occupants, who were not injured.
The Buffalo department also responded to a vehicle that veered off the road and into a field. no injuries were reported.
The road was slippery, though state Department of Transportation trucks were out plowing and salting, Johnston said.
An accident on Route 356 around 2:30 p.m. in Winfield Township took down power lines and fire crews were still on the scene as of 4:45 p.m.
At 4:12 p.m. a Saturn sedan went off South Chestnut Street in Butler, taking out a stop sign at the intersection with West Diamond Street and lodging into the side of Discover Wellness Center.
The driver, an elderly man, was being treated by Butler Ambulance Service for unknown injuries, fire officials said.
The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh predicted 1 to 2 inches of new snow in the Butler area for Tuesday afternoon and a 50 percent chance of more snow Tuesday night.
