2:03 a.m. Saturday — Ewari W. Ellis, 35, of Coraopolis, Allegheny County, was arrested on charges he assaulted his ex-girlfriend during a domestic dispute at an apartment on the 300 block of West Jefferson Street.

The woman told police that she was visiting a friend at the apartment when Ellis showed up. She has a protection from abuse order against him, according to court documents.

She recounted that when she tried to leave, the defendant got angry and shoved her to the floor, where she hit her forehead. He allegedly pulled her outside and shoved her, causing her head to hit a wall.

Ellis was arraigned on a charge of simple assault, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

11:56 p.m. Thursday — A Summit Township woman allegedly struggled with police following her arrest for drunken driving.

Kelly Lee Edwards, 29, was arraigned on charges of resisting arrest, driving under the influence and driving the wrong way. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

An officer on patrol said he spotted Edwards’ car turn the wrong way on Fourth Avenue and when he found the vehicle a short time later, it was parked in front of a home.

The defendant was still seated inside and told police that she was “waiting for my ride,” according to court documents. She admitted having consumed alcohol and was arrested for suspicion of DUI.

Edwards is accused of struggling with police as they tried to take her into custody. At the station, documents said, she was “argumentative and uncooperative.”

She refused to take a breath test after failing two sobriety tests. She subsequently stood up and tried to leave before being forced to the wall and handcuffed.

When officers attempted to removed her boots, documents aid, she “kicked her feet or pulled them away.”

They believe he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the oncoming lane and hit an embankment. A consent search of the SUV turned up 12 empty beer cans.
