Local Bingo games adjusting to new state rules

Charitable organizations that hold Bingo games are now allowed to hold more games per week and give away larger prizes.

At least one Butler County group that hosts a bingo game is considering expanding its offerings — taking advantage of the opportunity to raise more money.

An update to Act 66, which went into effect this year, increases Bingo prize limits from $250 to $500 for a single game, from $2,000 to $4,000 for a jackpot game and from $4,000 to $8,000 in prizes for a single day. The law also now allows organizations to hold Bingo daily instead of the previous limit of two days per week.

The General Butler Vagabonds holds Bingo twice each week at its hall off Whitestown Road in Lyndora.

Dave Campbell, the Vagabonds’ director of ensembles, said that the Vagabonds relies on Bingo revenue to fund its youth organizations.

“Right now we are discussing doing four ‘Super Bingo’ events per year. That would embrace those new rules changes,” he said.
