Jack Howell Whitehead

Jack Howell Whitehead of Stuart, Fla., and East Brady passed away peacefully on Monday surrounded by family and friends celebrating Christmas with him.

He was born April 5, 1934, in Newport News, Va., the first child of John Whitehead and Mildred Glover Whitehead.

The family moved to Pittsburgh in the early 1940s.

Jack graduated from Concord High School in Butler County in 1952. While there, he was active in sports, particularly basketball and baseball.

After graduation, he entered a five-year apprenticeship with the Steamfitters Local Union 449 in Pittsburgh, working while attending school at Connelly Trade Center.

For 25 years, he was employed by James C. Easley Inc. as an estimator and job supervisor until his retirement.

He continued his interest in athletics by becoming an avid golfer.

On Nov. 25, 1955, he was married to Doris Gaiser at the Karns City United Methodist Church. They celebrated 62 years of marriage this year.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Robin Whitehead Lee of Nashville; a son, Richard (Mary) Whitehead of Stuart, Fla.; his grandsons, Jackson and Evan Wessel and their father, Jack Wessel, of Tennessee; his granddaughter, Lindsey Whitehead of Florida; his step-granddaughters, Nicole (James) Farley and Ashley (Shawn) McNamara; his step-grandsons, Mathew, A.J., Caleb and Clayton of Florida; a daughter-in-law, Linda Whitehead of Pennsylvania, and her sons, Mike and Sam Clarke, and their families; sisters Sally Pint (Ronald) and Elaine Schwartz (Ralph) of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Ronald Scott Whitehead; his parents; his brother, Charles Whitehead; and his sister, Mildred Kearns.
