Nina Kraynik

Nina Kraynik

Nina was born Oct. 31, 1932, and was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning.

Known as “the Corn Lady,” Nina grew up on her family's farm in Cranberry Township and continued farming all of her life.

She attended the one-room Sample School which now sits in front of the Cranberry Township building. She attended Mars High School and the Stenotype Institute.

As a young country girl, she took a job with a law firm in Pittsburgh. She married John Kraynik and loved to square dance.

Nina and her husband served a young Cranberry Township in the 1960s on the volunteer police force. She was active in the Haine School Parent Teacher Association.

Nina was proud of her family's heritage and was an active member of the Cranberry Historical Society.

Nina was a Christian and a prayer warrior who touched all those she knew. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople, where she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, played piano and was active in the church ministry. She will always be remembered for her Sunday family dinners and words of wisdom. She was known to encourage faith in the Lord, quoting Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and He shall direct your paths.” And should her family forget about humility, she reminded them of I Corinthians 10:12, “Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed least he fall.”

Confident in her faith and love for the Lord, do not weep for Nina's passing, but celebrate as she gets to praise and worship her Savior. May her legacy continue to give us a Godly example to remember and strive to follow.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Kraynik) Kobus and her son-in-law, Richard Kobus; her son, Bryan Kraynik and her daughter-in-law, Betty (McVeigh) Kraynik; her grandchildren, Faith, Matthew, Anthony and Diana Lynn; two great-grandchildren, one niece and six nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kraynik; her father, Edward G. Meeder; and her mother, Nina M. (Ramsey) Meeder; her brothers, Chester, Glenn and Laird; and her sisters, Jeannette and Lillian.
