ADAMS TWP — A township man and his mother are facing numerous charges after police say they failed to seek medical help for a family member seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash last September.

Adams Township police have filed charges against Brent E. Henry, 44, and Deborah A. Henry, 62, in connection with the accident, which occurred at about 11:13 p.m. Sept. 19 near the intersection of Three Degree Road and West Road.

Police said they were called to the area after a 2004 Jeep ran off the road and collided with a tree before catching fire. When fire and EMS responders arrived on-scene they extinguished the fully-engulfed Jeep but found no one in or around the vehicle, according to court documents.

Investigators did find a vehicle registration beneath the Jeep, police said. That document led investigators to a home on the 100-block of Deer Spring Lane, where they found a man identified as Benjamin Perry with “severe” injuries including facial fractures, rib fractures, a concussion and a back injury. Police said they found Perry laying on the floor near the home's door, covered in a white sheet.

He was subsequently taken to Allegheny General Hospital, according to court documents.

Police said they also found Deborah Henry at the home. She had fresh blood on her clothes, police said, and initially told investigators the Jeep had been stolen before admitting to witnessing the crash and telling police that Perry had been a passenger in the vehicle.

She also told police that Brent Henry had been driving at the time, and that both men had been injured in the wreck and needed to be “pulled out” of the “smoking and popping” vehicle before everyone left the scene.

Brent Henry then went to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, police said. But he did not take Perry with him. And in court documents, police alleged that he and Deborah Henry both failed to provide Perry medical attention for his serious injuries, take him to the hospital, or call 911 to get him help.

Brent Henry is charged with felony counts of accidents involving death or injury while not properly licensed, accidents involving serious bodily injury or death and causing or risking a catastrophe, a misdemeanor count of recklessly endangering another person, and summary violations for driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked, reckless driving, and careless driving resulting in serious bodily injury.

Deborah Henry is charged with felony accidents involving serious bodily injury or death, and misdemeanor counts of obstruction and recklessly endangering another person.
