Leroy Earl McCandless

Leroy Earl McCandless, 87, of Butler died Sunday evening after an illness.

Leroy was born March 28, 1930, in Butler, and was the son of Bert Harold and Phobe Gallagher McCandless.

He had been a truck driver for Triangle Gas in Butler. He was a member of the Butler Masonic Lodge 272 and had received his 50-year pin in 2017.

He was Protestant by faith.

Leroy loved to travel with his wife in their motor home. He was an avid hunter and loved playing cards and spending time with his family and dear friends.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy McCandless, whom he married Oct. 16, 1987; one son, Gregg (Karen) McCandless of California; one daughter, Brenda (Ken) Young of Texas; one stepson, John A. (Jodi) Ray of Stoneboro; two stepdaughters, Gara (Dave) Johnston of Butler and Michele Myers of Butler; one sister, Ruth Barkley of Elizabethtown; and eight step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lori McCandless; two sisters, Dorothy Scott and Betty Cratty; and one step-grandson.

McCANDLESS — There will be no public visitation for Leroy Earl McCandless, who died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018. A private family service will be held later.Arrangements were entrusted to the Jay Bryan Funeral Home, 443 Main St., Prospect.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Unionville Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1114 Sunset Drive, Butler, PA, 16001.
