Josephine G. Galla, 85, of Oil City died peacefully Sunday at Caring Place Personal Care in Franklin.

Born May 10, 1932, in Boyers, she was a daughter of the late Brady J. and Colena Steiner Kelly.

Josie graduated with a nursing degree from the Oil City Hospital before continuing her education and graduating with two master's degrees in education from Slippery Rock University.

She worked as a nurse for over 50 years, specializing in mental health nursing and was instrumental in developing and implementing the partial hospitalization program at Venango County Counseling Center.

Mrs. Galla loved spending time with her grandchildren and especially her great-grandchildren.

Surviving are a son, Larry Galla and his wife, Maria, of Oil City; two grandchildren, Jason Galla and his wife, Sass, of Seneca, and Anthony KatipunanGalla and his husband, Jai, of Las Vegas, Nev.; and three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Lincoln and Greyden Galla.

Also surviving are three brothers, Burdette Kelly and his wife, Wanita, of Harrisville, Keith Kelly of Emlenton, and Doug Kelly and his wife, Peggy, of Clintonville; a sister, Polly Errera and her husband, John, of Kent, Ohio; and a special niece, Denise Kelly of Boyers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Denny Kelly; and two sisters, Sarah VanTassel and Colena “Sis” Mitchell.

GALLA — Friends of Josephine G. Galla, who died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Morrison Funeral Home, 110 Petroleum St., Oil City.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at noon Friday in St. Stephen Church in Oil City with the Rev.
