Elmer E. Colteryahn Jr.

Elmer E. Colteryahn Jr., 87, of Prospect died Thursday.

He was born Jan. 7, 1931, in Pittsburgh, and was the son of Elmer and Alma Shaffer Colteryahn.

Elmer was a member of the Mount Nebo Presbyterian Church in Prospect.

Elmer was a dairyman, having worked at Carl Colteryahn Dairy in Pittsburgh.

He had been in the U.S. Army Reserves for 13 years and was a sergeant major.

Elmer was a member of the Syria Shrine and the Masonic Lodge in Pittsburgh. He was a longtime member of the board of directors for the Butler Farm Show, had been a member of the Western Pennsylvania Pony Pulling Association and was the founder and chairman of the Butler Rodeo for 27 years. For many years, Elmer provided the horse drawn caisson for Prospect's Memorial Community Day Parade.

He loved his farm and his horses.

Survivors include one son, Scott Colteryahn of Prospect; and one daughter, Lynette (James) Goehring of Emlenton; one sister, Lois Fry of Rockdale, Texas; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, whom he married Feb. 7, 1953, and who died Oct. 5, 2003; and his brother, James Colteryahn.

COLTERYAHN — Visitation for Elmer E. Colteryahn Jr., who died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, will be from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jay Bryan Funeral Home, 443 Main St., Prospect.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home with the Rev. Steve Cort officiating.Burial will be in Greenlawn Burial Estates in Butler.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mount Nebo Presbyterian Church in Prospect, or to Community Connections Inc., 114 Skyline Drive, Butler, PA.
