Ivan P. Griggs Jr.
Ivan P. Griggs Jr., 87, passed peacefully from this world Feb. 4.
Ivan was born to Della and Paul Griggs Dec. 2, 1930, in Pittsburgh. He lived in Altoona and Gibsonia before moving to Butler in 2017.
Ivan graduated from State College High School, attended the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
After his military service, he worked at GMAC for 42 years, with his last assignment at the Butler Auto Auction in Butler.
He was a staunch supporter of buying American, loved the outdoors and delighted in taking an unknown path, “just to see where it went.”
He was a passionate U.S. and international stamp and coin collector, Steelers fan, and a voracious reader, who was convinced eating a peanut butter sandwich while reading definitely enhanced the story line.
Ivan was a devoted husband and father and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgetta Griggs; and his daughters, Mary (John Eckenrode) Griggs of Burke, Va., Christine (Bob) Perneski of St. Marys, Pa., and Jennifer (Bob) Miles of Fombell. He is also survived by his nephew, Paul Zell, and niece, Diane Zell, and their families of State College.
