George Edward Lavery Sr., 85, of Butler, PA, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

George Edward Lavery Sr., 85, of Butler passed away Friday at Butler VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born May 4, 1932, in Butler, the son of the late Charles Lavery and Mary Betch Lavery.

He was a member of the Community Alliance Church, the Moose 1 Legion and the Herman Volunteer Fire Co. He liked to recycle cans and strip wire.

Surviving are his children, Rose Marie (Gregory A.) Craig of Butler, George “Eddie” Edward (Melanie) Lavery Jr. of Philipsburg, Pa., Paul T. Lavery and Joseph L. Lavery, both of Butler, Ricky D. Lavery of Arnold, and Donald C. Lavery of Monaca; his grandchildren, Nathan E. (Dori) Lavery, Jason D. Lavery, Tyler (Sara Gorley) Vanvelzor, Caleb C. Craig, Joshua D. Craig, Chad (Nicole) Lavery, Shannon Whitehair, Brittany (Brant) Hackbarth, TJ Lavery, Olivia Lavery and Izabellha Lavery; her great-grandchildren, Martin, Andrea, Miles, Carter, Ashton, Braydon, Monica, Janelle, Ella, Ryan, Karrera and Asa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Elizabeth Bowser Lavery, who died Dec. 25, 2016; three sisters; and three brothers.

LAVERY — Friends of George Edward Lavery Sr., who died Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler.Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Joe Floris officiating.
