V. Mardelle Humes

V. Mardelle Humes, 100, of Buffalo Township passed away Thursday while in the company of family at Harmar Village in Cheswick.

Mardelle was born in Natrona Heights Jan. 10, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Ella (Carney) and Harry A. Ross. Mardelle was the widow of Harry K. Humes Sr., who passed in 2001.

She was a longtime member of Freeport United Methodist Church.

Mardelle had worked for a few years at the now-closed Saxonburg Ceramics, but the majority of her life was spent as a loving wife, caring mother and wonderful homemaker.

She had enjoyed bowling, reading and just spending time with her family.

Mardelle is survived by her son and “6th” daughter, Harry K. and Karen Humes Jr., of Buffalo Township; and five daughters, Joyce and Eugene Tahon of Hollidaysburg, Linda Leah of Waynesboro, Evelyn and Howard Morris of Saxonburg, Susan and Kim Claypool, of Freeport and Janice Zubrin of Buffalo Township. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mardelle was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Hugh Leah; two grandsons, Kim and Noel Claypool; five sisters, Audrey Ankron, Dorothea Delp, Doris Ross, Twila DeMao and ValJean Campbell; and six brothers, Marlin, Delroy, Harry, Virgil, Wendall and Richard Ross.

HUMES — Family and friends of V. Mardelle Humes, who died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018, will be received from noon until 2 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport.Funeral service will be held at noon Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Dawn Lynn Check officiating.
