GENEVA, Ohio — The Butler YMCA Barracuda swim team placed second overall last weekend at the Western Pa. YMCA District Meet.

The boys team finished first, the girls team second. Butler’s run of five consecutive overall district championships was snapped by the Indiana YMCA Piranhas. Indiana tallied 1,340.5 points to Butler’s 1,272.

There were more than 30 YMCA teams from western Pennsylvania competing.

Winning district championships for Butler were Lindsey Fanton in the 400-yard individual medley, Samuel Schirra in the 200 butterfly, Bryce Dryden in the 200 freestyle, Gideon Goettler in the 100 breaststroke and 200 IM, Ben Borvendeg in the 200 IM.

Goettler’s time of 1:09.45 in the boys 11-12-year-old 100 breast and Borvendeg’s time of 2:05.64 in the boys 13-14 200 IM set district meet records.

The boys 9-10 200-yard medley relay of Jackson Morgus, Adrian Lavorini, Cody Hartle and Daniel Birch placed first, as did the boys 11-12 unit of Drew Griffith, Goettler, Dryden and Landon Kelly in the same event.

Butler will move on to compete in the Pa. State YMCA Swim Championships Friday through Sunday at Penn State University.
