Walters, Pantuso knot records as SRU splits
GREENSBURG — Slippery Rock University seniors Tyler Walters and Alex Pantuso tied school baseball records Sunday in the first game of a doubleheader split at Seton Hill.
Walters hit a solo home run — the 40th of his SRU career — to knot Nate Thimons' record for most in program history. Walters is also four homers away from tying Kutztown's Shayne Houck for most round-trippers in PSAC history.
Pantuso was the winning pitcher in Game 1, a 7-4 Rock victory. He struck out 11 to tie current Oakland A's prospect Lou Trivino for most strikeouts in Rock history — 217.
Seton Hill earned a split of the twinbill with a 6-5 triumph in Game 2.
Pantuso tossed a four-hitter for his first win of the season. Walters had two hits in the first game. Abraham Mow had two RBI.
Knoch graduate Chris Law homered for Seton Hill (6-10, 1-1).
The Rock (8-6, 1-1) built a 5-0 lead in Game 2, but couldn't hold it. Tyler Merigliano had a double, single and four RBI. Mitchell Wood had two singles.
The two teams conclude their four-game series with a 1 p.m. Monday doubleheader at Critchfield Park.
