Butler County Parks and Recreation Director Lance Welliver has announced nearly $117,000 in grants to help fund projects in 12 parks throughout the county.

The 2018 Butler County Park Renovation Program grants were approved by the County Commissioners at their March meeting.

Saxonburg will receive $6,975, which will help fund a $9,300 project to remove and replace a concrete pad and install two touch-free faucets and two toilets in the Roebling Park rest room.

The other 11 municipalities will receive $7,500 each toward their park projects.

Adams Township will remove and replace playground equipment in a $64,000 project at the Community Park.

Bruin Park will install sidewalks, benches and grills for $$10,277. Buffalo Township will install gates, posts, hinges, chains and weatherproof locks throughout the Butler-Freeport Trail for a total cost of $10,000.

A roofing project for $10,000 will be completed at Preston Park in Butler Township, while a $12,722 project at Spring Valley Park in Clinton Township will see the completion of a pavilion and the addition of a concrete sidewalk, handicapped parking and landscaping.

Cranberry Township’s North Boundary Park will undergo a $150,000 project to rehabilitate playground equipment and replace its surface with new wood composite, plus place wheelchair accessible pathways and structures at the park.

Eau Claire will spend $10,000 to replace a furnace and two shelter roofs in the borough park. Fairview Township will completely renovate the double tennis court for $60,000, including relining the courts for both tennis and pickleball.

Petrolia will also spend $60,000 for French drains along the playground area, new playground safety surfacing and a bench for its borough park.

Slippery Rock Community Park will get a new unisex restroom for $60,000 and Zelienople will spend $28,000 for four special-needs playground features and a wheelchair pathway upgrade to the existing playground in the Community Park.

All amounts listed are the total project costs. The county grant money would decrease each amount.

The 11 municipalities that did not receive grants from the county are Chicora, Butler, Evans City, Connoquenessing and Karns City as well as Clay, Forward, Marion, Middlesex, Winfield and Jefferson townships.
