Timothy J. Krick, 55, was arrested by city police Friday following an incident in which he allegedly threatened two children and an adult with a rifle.
Peter Schmitt, Butler resident, is credited by police with wrestling the gun away from Krick and diffusing the situation.
Krick, who lives at the corner of Morton and Spang avenue, allegedly yelled at a group of children getting of the school bus to get off his property, according to a police affidavit.
According to the report, Krick said “I'm going to take care of this right now” and fetched a rifle from his apartment, which he allegedly pointed at several people on the sidewalk.Schmitt, in an interview, said he took Krick's actions as a threat, that he might kill him or his step-children.So when Krick turned away from him for a split second, he “sucker punched” him in the mouth, he said.“I saw an opportunity and I took it, knocked him to the ground, forced the rifle off of him and secured it until the officers arrived,” Schmitt said.Krick faces terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault — fear of serious injury and recklessly endangering another person charges, all misdemeanors. He is being held in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.A full story appears in the Butler Eagle.
