Firefighters rescue motorist trapped inside truck
A man was rescued from a vehicle after a Saturday night accident that caused a power outage and closed Route 268 for several hours.
Police, fire and EMS crews were called at 11:30 p.m. to Kittanning Pike in Fairview Township just outside of Karns City for a pickup truck into a utility pole.
Petrolia Fire Chief Chuck Barnes said the man inside the truck was unable to get out on his own. Firefighters cut out the windshield and assisted him out, Barnes said.
He was taken by Chicora Ambulance Service to Butler Memorial Hospital reportedly with non-life threatening injuries.
State police investigated the accident and more information was not available Sunday.
Since the pole was sheared off and wires were down on the road, fire crews kept the road closed in both directions while waiting for Armstrong Cable and West Penn Power to respond and put up a new pole.
An Armstrong flagger crew relieved the fire department at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and the road remained closed until about 5 a.m., Barnes said.
