Douglas W. Corvin Jr.
Douglas W. Corvin Jr., 86, of Forward Township passed away Friday in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.
Born Dec. 22, 1931, in Uniontown, he was the son of the late Douglas W. Corvin Sr. and Evelyn Inks Corvin.
Doug began working for the B & O Railroad as a telegraph operator, directing trains. He ended his career with the CSX Railroad as a freight agent, retiring after 42 years.
He proudly served our country in the 1st Armored Division in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Doug was a faithful member of the North Street Christian Church in Butler, serving as a deacon and also on the stewardship committee.
He belonged to the NRA, receiving the Defender of Freedom award through the organization. He volunteered for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources at Moraine State Park and also volunteered for the Muddy Creek Oil Field.
Doug was the winner of the Butler Chili Cook Off in 2009 with his recipe called “Cherokee Chili.” He belonged to the Monday night golf league at Krendale Golf Course. He also wrote his own golf memoir book.
As an outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 64 years, Marian Perlik Corvin, whom he married on April 17, 1954; his children, Valerie Druschel and her husband, Rick Jr., of Slippery Rock, and Christi Shoup and her husband, Jason, of Knoxville, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Jacob and Sarah Shoup; and his sister, Sara Braverman of Canonsburg.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his son, Douglas W. Corvin III, who passed away in 1970; and his sister, Anne Gerhart.
CORVIN — Friends of Douglas W. Corvin Jr., who died Friday, April 20, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Huber of North Street Christian Church officiating.Doug will be laid to rest with military honors at United Cemetery in Ross Township.Memorial donations may be made in his honor to the Building Fund at North Street Christian Church, 226 W.
