Joan E. VanRyn

Joan E. VanRyn

Joan E. VanRyn, 77, of Worthington died peacefully Sunday at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot from the effects of cancer. Her firm belief in God supported her in her struggle and gave her peace.

She was born March 26, 1941, in Harrisburg, to John and Betty (Atticks) Thomson.

Joan's love of all things equine lead her to become the owner and operator of Honey-Do Farms, Inc., a horse boarding facility. It was there that she bred, raised and raced thoroughbred horses and was able to “live her dream.” She sold the farm and retired in 2007.

Since her retirement, Joan had enjoyed kayaking, hiking, fishing and participating in Butler Outdoor Club activities.

Survivors include her daughters, Nadine (Dan Garmer) Wise of Worthington and Joelle Wise of Asheville, N.C.; her son, Frank “Matthew” (Kim Weitzel) Wise of Butler; and her grandchildren, Jonathan Wise, Samantha Wise, Delaney Garmer and Frank “Cody” Wise; as well as her cat, Boo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul VanRyn; her companion, Mark Pozzuto; the father of her children, Frank C. Wise; and her brother, Jack Thomson.

The family would like to thank Concordia Personal Care and Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot, for their care, compassion and comfort during Joan's final months. Bless you, for the work that you do.
