William C. “Mick” McCormick Jr.

William C. “Mick” McCormick Jr.

William C. “Mick” McCormick Jr., 75, of Penn Township passed away peacefully Wednesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries in Cabot. He never let his Parkinson's disease define him and now he is running free.

He graduated from North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh, and received his degree in accounting from Duquesne University. He was director of data processing for Butler County. He worked in the IT department at the Central Blood Bank and he was a project manager for Hewlett Packard before retiring.

He enjoyed his dogs and raised, trained, showed and raced Alaskan Malamutes. He was a long time member of the Butler County Kennel Club, served as president for many years and held conformation classes to teach people how to show their dogs. He also belonged to the Butler Dog Training Association and the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. He had many interest and talents.

His great sense of humor was evident in a column which he wrote for the Butler Eagle in the early 1990s. He loved photography and combined his photos with his writing in some very clever photo essays and travelogues. He loved “playing in the dirt,” planting trees, mowing grass and growing great blueberries. He also enjoyed music and loved the Pittsburgh Pops concerts and the Broadway Series.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Katherine K. (Kathie) McCormick; his sister, Karlene (Patrick) Lee; his brother, John D. McCormick; and many friends and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William C. McCormick Sr. and Elizabeth D. McCormick; and his sister, Lyn Donley.
