K-9 Blade retires, but no successor
Butler has no immediate plans to replace one of the police department's two canine officers that retired in the spring.
K-9 Officer Blade was retired earlier this year because he was no longer fit for service, Mayor Ben Smith said.
Blade is being kept by the officer who served as his handler and the K-9 vehicle they used to patrol in is being kept as a backup for the department's other K-9 vehicle, Smith said at Tuesday's City Council meeting.
He said there are no current plans to replace Blade.
Gunner, the other canine officer, remains in service.
Gunner joined the department in 2012. Blade joined in 2015.
