Celebrations and fireworks planned

Fireworks will light up the skies this week as Butler County celebrates the Fourth of July.

The following communities and groups will be offering fireworks:

Fireworks will immediately follow the Butler BlueSox game on Wednesday.

The game will begin at 6:35 p.m. Fireworks are expected to start at about 9:30 p.m. if the game finishes on time.

The Mars Fourth of July celebration will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday in downtown Mars. Food will be served until 4:30 p.m., with music and activities from 3 to 7 p.m.

Parade lineup will begin at 4 p.m. at Marburger Field, and get under way at 5 p.m.

The parade will travel down Beaver Street to Pittsburgh Street, then down Grand Avenue and end at the post office.

Participating in this year’s parade will be students and athletes from Mars High School, including the state champion girls’ basketball team.

Fireworks will begin at dusk, and a sound track will be provided by tuning to 87.9 FM during the display.

Zelienople will kick off its Fourth of July festivities with a morning Independence Day parade put on by the Zelienople Rotary Club. The parade will begin at 11 a.m., and afterward attendees can participate in festivities in the park proceeded by fireworks at dusk.

Fireworks will be held at dusk Tuesday at New Life Christian Ministries, 139 Knoch Road, Saxonburg. Grounds open at 8 p.m. and the event is free.

The Big Butler Fair on Wednesday night at the fairgrounds will feature a fireworks show by Shively Fireworks of Karns City.
