Weekend ATV wreck claims one life
WOLF CREEK TWP, Mercer County — A weekend all-terrain vehicle crash claimed the life of a Grove City man, authorities said.
But investigators can't say for certain when Michael R. Hedglin, 41, wrecked his four-wheel ATV on a small country road Saturday morning.
Hedglin's body and his damaged E-Z-Go Trail Boss 330 were discovered shortly before 7 a.m. on Perrine Road in Wolf Creek Township.
Based on the body's “physical characteristics,” such as lividity, it appeared he had been dead for several hours, said Mercer County Coroner John Libonati, who pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Libonati's said his findings and other evidence collected by police suggest the accident happened between 1 and 3 a.m.
Police said Hedglin was traveling west on the road and was apparently making a turn when he lost control of the ATV less than a mile from his home.
He landed on the north side of the road. The vehicle ended on its left side on the north side of the road facing south.
Investigators said Hedglin was not wearing a helmet or other safety equipment.
No autopsy was conducted but results of standard toxicology tests are pending. Libonati said the cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma to the head.
The Springfield Township Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Hedglin was a craftsman at Wendell August Forge in Springfield Township. He is survived by his fiancée and three children.
