Lucille J. “Jan” Staugh
Lucille J. “Jan” Staugh, 77, of Thompson Road, Chicora, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, passed away Sunday morning at her home with her loving husband by her side.
Lucille was born March 28, 1941, in Mt. Carmel, Ill. She was the daughter of Lloyd Arthur and Edna Marjorie Elston Chambers.
She graduated in 1959 from Newton Community High School and immediately joined the Woman's Army Corps (WACS). She served on active duty from 1959 to 1962 and attained the rank of specialist fifth class.
While serving in Pirmasens, Germany, she met her future husband, Richard John Staugh, who also was serving with the U.S. military. The couple married Nov. 4, 1961.
She was employed as a book keeper with Quality Life Services from 1984 until her retirement in 2003. Jan was a member of the Butler Women of the Moose Chapter 260 and American Legion Post 642 of Chicora.
She was an avid genealogist and a charter member of the Butler County Genealogical Society, which was founded in 2003. Jan was also on the board of directors of the PASCO County Genealogical Society in Zephyrhills, Fla., and a former member of the North Hills Genealogist Society.
She loved music, played keyboard and sang vocals with several bands, including: The Country Lanes, Just Passin' Through', The Forest Circle Heights Pickers, The Forest Circle Original Boob Grass Band, The Country Squares, and Dolly's Bluegrass Band.
In addition to her husband, Jan is survived by her daughter, LuWana Gail Hargis and her husband, Chris; her grandson, Aaron Kyle Hargis; and her granddaughter, Alyssa Reanne Hargis, all of Altus, Okla.
Additionally she is survived by three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Shook and her husband, Dennis of Butler, Debbie Staugh of Cabot and Jeanne Chambers of Rapid City, S.D.; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Marie Rennier; two brothers, Lloyd Lynn Chambers and James Elston Chambers; her sister-in-law, Nancy Lee Fair; her brother-in-law, Raymond G. Staugh; three nieces; one grandniece; and one nephew.
STAUGH — Friends of Lucille J. “Jan” Staugh, who died Sunday, June 10, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Kenneth R. Tack Jr., a United Church of Christ pastor, officiating.
