Katherine “Kathi” Louella Shirey Hogg

Katherine “Kathi” Louella Shirey Hogg, 67, of Slippery Rock passed away in to the arms of her Savior on Friday at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was born March 17, 1951, in Rimersburg, Clarion County, to Linton Duane Shirey Sr. and Mary Jane Helms Shirey.

She graduated from Slippery Rock High School and later obtained her undergraduate and graduate degrees in archaeology from Slippery Rock University.

She worked at Slippery Rock University for over 37 years and retired as the assistant manager of the university bookstore.

She enjoyed bingo, reading, singing, gardening and traveling with her husband.

She was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of the former West Liberty Presbyterian Church.

While at church, she was active in her church choir, as both a member of the choir and was a soloist. Noted for her beautiful singing voice, she was also a member of the Sing Hosanna Choir in Butler.

She had three dogs that she dearly loved. She loved going to yard sales every weekend.

Mrs. Hogg is survived by her cherished husband of 46 years, Thomas H. Hogg at home, and whom she married on Aug. 12, 1972; two sons, Aaron M. Hogg of Slippery Rock, and Matthew A. (Carrie) Hogg of Strongsville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Charles A. Hogg of Slippery Rock, and Julia and Jonathan Hogg of Strongsville, Ohio; four brothers, David (Elizabeth), Harold, Steve (Dee) and James, all of Slippery Rock; two sisters, Linda Shaffer of Worthington, Pa., and Susan Bonner of Vista, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

HOGG — The family of Katherine “Kathi” Louella Shirey Hogg, who died Friday, June 22, 2018, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Court of the Presbyterian Church of Prospect presiding.Memorial contributions may be given to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Pittsburgh at www.lls.org.
