Upcoming Pie Festival is set to feature over 400 pies
Marching band fans in Butler should go ahead and loosen their belts: this year's Pie Festival is set to feature over 400 pies.
The Butler Golden Tornado Marching Band is hosting a night of music, school spirit and pie at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 at Art Bernardi Stadium. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show should last about 45 minutes to an hour, according to band director Jeff Kroner.
Attendees will pay $5 for entrance, ice cream, a drink and, of course, a slice of pie. Proceeds go to the marching band.
The event consists of the band's pre-game and half-time shows for the season and recognition of the varsity cheerleaders and football players.
The band has 204 members this year, spanning 9th graders through seniors. Each member is supposed to bring two pies.
Those in attendance can expect just about every flavor to be present, though cream-based pies are forbidden due to the event's outdoor, sunlit setting.
“We'll have just about everything,” Kroner said.
The event, he said, is a good opportunity for folks who don't love football games to get to see this year's marching band shows outside of that setting.
