Myrna W. Swanson Martin

Myrna W. Swanson Martin, 96, of Butler passed away Tuesday at the Lowrie Place.

She was born Nov. 6, 1921, in Wilkinsburg, Pa., to the late Karl A. Swanson and the late Myrna M. West Swanson.

Myrna graduated from West View High School. During World War II, she served as an air raid warden in West View. Myrna was a homemaker.

She was a former member of Trinity Presbyterian Church Hearts and Hands as well as a former deaconess there. Myrna was a current member of St. John's Reformed Church.

She enjoyed reading, needlepoint and sports. Myrna loved sports, especially the Penguins, Steelers and Pirates. She loved to talk about how she attended game 7 of the 1960 World Series. The last time she played football was at a family gathering when she was 75.

Her church family has always been important to her. Myrna's faith has sustained her and helped her keep a positive outlook on life. She loved talking to and listening to people. She enjoyed the activities at Lowrie house.

For the past 54 years, Myrna has only admitted to being 42.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Barnes and her husband, Thomas L. Sr. of Central City, Pa.; two sons, Paul R. Martin and his wife, Bernadine, of McCandless and Richard K. Martin and his wife, Mary Pat, of Mars; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Martin, whom she married March 3, 1948, and who died Jan. 25, 2016; and her sister, Mary Swanson Stinnett.

MARTIN — Friends of Myrna W. Swanson Martin, who died Tuesday, July 24, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jarrod Crawford of St. John's Reformed Church officiating. Burial will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sharpsburg.Memorial donations are suggested to St. John's Reformed Church, 493 Evans City Road, Butler, PA 16001 or the Gideon's International, P.O.
