Mary (Magdaline) Damico Rusnak

Mary (Magdaline) Damico Rusnak

Mary (Magdaline) Damico Rusnak, 97, formerly of Penn Township, died peacefully on Monday at Elmcroft of Saxonburg.

Born Sept. 10, 1920, in Charleroi, she was the daughter of the late Charles Damico and Mary Hornick Damico.

At an early age, Mary learned to play the old parlor organ. Music was an important part of her life.

She enrolled in art school in Minneapolis and later at Penn State for industrial accounting, which enabled her to get a job at the Bantam Company of Butler. After a few months of working inside, she decided to go on to what she loved to do, draw and sketch flowers.

She loved to travel and had been to many places around the world. Her favorites were Austria and Switzerland.

She was an active member of the Butler Garden Club and she did illustrations for them. Mary also helped with the book, “Penn Panorama,” with writings and illustrations of Penn Township over the last 100 years.

Mary loved visiting all of the neighboring garden centers, admiring all of the flowers. Her love of nature, music and flowers had been passed down with several “artists” in the family.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Rusnak; and seven siblings.
