Priest with local ties accused of abuse
A Catholic priest who attended seminary in Butler County is now on the list of Pennsylvania priests accused of sexual abuse, the Pittsburgh Catholic Diocese reported Thursday.
The Rev. Anthony G. Bosco died in 2013. He served as bishop of the Greensburg diocese from 1987 through 2004, when he retired.
Someone reported to the church that Bosco inappropriately touched a nursing student while teaching and working as a chaplain at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. The abuse occurred in the late 1960s, the complainant reported.
Bosco’s career started in the Pittsburgh Diocese. An obituary published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in 2013 states that Bosco attended St. Fidelis Seminary in Butler County early in his career. He was ordained in 1952, according to the obituary.
Any victims of sexual abuse can contact the state’s abuse hotline at 1-800-932-0313 and report abuse to the church at 1-888-808-1235.
