Stella Elizabeth McCandless Brandon
Stella Elizabeth McCandless Brandon, 93, of St. Cloud, Fla., passed away Tuesday at Orchard Manor in Grove City.
Born on May 2, 1925, in the City of Butler, she was the daughter of the late James Reddick and Esther Margaret Cranmer McCandless.
Stella graduated from Plain Grove High School in 1943, and lived in Worth Township, Butler County, for over 40 years following her marriage to Russell Brandon on May 29, 1943.
She served as a supervisor in the food services department of the then Slippery Rock State Teacher's College and thereafter as the food service director at Slippery Rock School District.
Stella was a member of Zion Baptist Church and the Worth Township Grange for a number of years before moving to St. Cloud following the death of her husband.
Stella was a witty, caring, kind and nurturing person, whose love for her family and all children was tantamount and will be carried through countless generations.
Stella will be sorely missed but always remembered fondly by her family and friends.
She was an accomplished shopaholic.
Stella is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, B. Jane and Merrill C. “Mac” McClure of Slippery Rock; her sister-in-law, Lauretta Brandon; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell V., who passed away on Oct. 6, 1982; her sister, Darlene Compton Mesner; her brother, Robert J. McCandless; and her son, Robert W. Brandon, who passed away on Jan. 4, 2012.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregivers who provided at home services and those at Orchard Manor who unselfishly gave of their care and love to Stella during her waning days.
BRANDON — The family of Stella Elizabeth McCandless Brandon, who died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Meling, pastor of Zion Baptist Church, presiding.Interment will be in Zion Baptist Cemetery, Worth Township, Butler County.Memorial contributions may be given to Slippery Rock Rescue Team, P.O.
