Dorothy (Shannon) Ayers
Dorothy (Shannon) Ayers, 89, of Kittanning died Sunday at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.
Dorothy was born in Manor Township on June 15, 1929, to Hattie (McGinnis) and Alexander Shannon.
She was a 1947 graduate of Kittanning High School. Her employment included Eljer Co., WACB Radio Station, and the Department of Sales Tax-Revenue Division. After relocating to Butler, she had employment with Friedman's Supermarkets and PA Job Service, and she also served as executive secretary to the late Judge Arthur Rauschenberger of Butler Common Pleas Court.
Mrs. Ayers was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, serving as deacon and secretary for church council.
She was a member of the Kittanning Area Women's Club, Armstrong County Historical Society, lifetime member of Post 249 VFW Ladies Auxiliary where she served as president of the Butler VFW, and Butler County VFW. Also, she served as president of District 25 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Dorothy served her community on various other committees and positions.
Her hobbies included decorating, collecting thimbles and plates, and playing her beloved organ.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Michael (Vesta) Csir; one daughter, Rhonda (Leslie) Galizia and her husband, Joseph, of Zelienople; one son, Stephen Leslie and his wife, Lorraine, of Clarksville, Tenn.; and daughter-in-law, Janie (Toy) Leslie of Harpers Ferry, W.Va. Also surviving is a multitude of nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert D. Leslie; second husband, Dr. Cyrus B. Slease; third husband, Clarence V. Ayers; a son, David T. Leslie, who passed away Aug. 30, 2016; three brothers, Arthur, Andrew and Floyd Cunningham; and one sister, Myrna Smith.
AYERS — Friends of Dorothy (Shannon) Ayers, who died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018, will be received from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at noon Wednesday at the SNYDER-CRISSMAN FUNERAL HOME, 200 S. McKean St., Kittanning, with the Rev. Edward A. Walters officiating.
