David G. Pierce

David G. Pierce, 82, of Harmony passed away Wednesday at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born Nov. 7, 1935, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Gorman M. Pierce and Elizabeth Carter Pierce.

David was a 1953 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ellwood City.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

David graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. in 1953.

David had a long and productive career in the machine and metals industries working for Aetna Standard, Herr-Voss Corp., Mayfield Foundry and beginning in 1994, Medart Inc. of Ellwood City, where he was president and president emeritus. He enjoyed engineering a great deal and had a life-long interest in machinery design.

David was a longtime member of Camp Run United Presbyterian Church and the Zelienople Rotary Club.

He was a coach for many of his son's athletic teams. He enjoyed mowing his lawn. David loved golf and was a member at the Connoquenessing Country Club. He also enjoyed bass fishing, especially his trips to fish in Canada.

David leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Helen Mae Burry Pierce, whom he married on June 18, 1960; his sons, James (Karen) Pierce of Harrisville, and Jeffrey (Angela) Pierce of Ellwood City; his 11 grandchildren; his one great-grandchild; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Gallagher of New Brighton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie Speicher; and his three sisters, Elizabeth Thornhill, Nancy Mathews and Ann Henrich.

PIERCE — Friends of David G. Pierce, who died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.Additional visitation will be from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. Sunday at Camp Run United Presbyterian Church, 489 Church Road, Harmony, with the Rev. Rosalyn Kummer and the Rev. James Swanson officiating.David will be laid to rest at the Camp Run United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made in David's honor to Camp Run United Presbyterian Church.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
