Robert E. “Soapy” Fleming

Robert E. “Soapy” Fleming, 89, a well-known, lifelong Foxburg resident passed away early Tuesday morning at Grove Manor in Grove City.

Robert was born July 9, 1929, in Foxburg. He was the son of the late John and Myrtle Stalker Fleming.

He graduated from the St. Petersburg-Richland High School.

Bob was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the infantry in Korea at the 38th Parallel.

Soapy was of the Protestant faith and was an avid outdoorsman and hunter.

He was very active in the Foxburg community, having served on Foxburg Borough Council, Foxburg Water Authority, the Foxburg Library Board and the Foxburg Cemetery Association.

Bob was employed for more than 40 years with the Quaker State Oil Refining Corp. in Emlenton and retired from Petro Wax in 1993.

Bob was preceded in death on June 8, 1993, by his wife, Rita Irene Francisco Fleming, whom he married in Parker on Feb. 14, 1953.

Soapy is survived by two sons, Jeffrey S. Fleming and his wife, Sandra J., of Foxburg, and Lance L. Fleming of Paducah, Ky.; five grandchildren, Todd Fleming and his wife, Amanda, of Elkland, Douglas Fleming and his wife, Elizabeth A. “Beth,” of Bruin, Adisyn Fleming, Cade Fleming and Claire Fleming, all of Paducah; five great-grandchildren, Genevieve Grace, Rachel Mae, Wyatt Jacob, Garrett Steven and Elisse Renae; two brothers, Ronald L. Fleming and his wife, Sandra, of Knox, and Charles R. Fleming and his wife, Judy, of Foxburg; a sister, Norma L. Slaugenhoup and her husband, Carl P. “Phil,” of Parker; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Silvis; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Harry and James Fleming; as well as a number of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

FLEMING — Friends of Robert E. “Soapy” Fleming, who died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hile Funeral Home, 802 Grove St., St. Petersburg, Pa.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday from the funeral home with the Rev. Jacob Langdon, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church in Emlenton, officiating.Military honors will be accorded by the V.E.T.S.
