Multiple local recipients to receive organs after death of local man
CRANBERRY TWP — A township man struck by an alleged drunken driver earlier this week will help hundreds through the donation of his organs.
The transplants from Aleksander Teimouri, 22, are scheduled to occur around 1 a.m. Saturday. Teimouri was leaving work on his bicycle around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night when police say he was struck by David W. Lohr, 51, of Cranberry Township. He was declared brain dead at the scene, and was being kept alive until donors could be found.
According to his mother, Christina Teimouri, multiple potential recipients candid were found after a series of tests Thursday. Recipients have been found for his heart, kidneys, pancreas, and liver. Two of the recipients will receive double transplants from Alek.
All of those patients were found in the same hospital, UPMC Presbyterian, where Alek Teimouri was taken following the accident. As of Friday evening, medical officials were still searching for a donor for Alek Teimouri's lungs.
In addition to his organs, Alek Teimouri will make contributions to the Center for Organ Recovery & Education. Christina Teimouri said his corneas will be donated, as will his skin and bones to be used by burn and wound patients. His ligaments will also be used to help those with athletic injuries and other issues.
