2018 was a wet one.

The Pittsburgh National Weather Service office confirmed Tuesday that the city beat its previous record for accumulated precipitation. That includes both rainfall and snow melt.

In 2018, Pittsburgh received 57.83 inches of precipitation. The previous record of 57.41 inches was set in 2004.

Shannon Hefferan, a NWS meteorologist, said the weather service could only provide the data for Pittsburgh, but not for Butler County.

No one particular weather system or storm is to blame for the record-setting water, Hefferan said.

“We just had several systems that hovered over us,” Hefferan said. “It all adds up.”

Between summer storms, late fall showers and early-year rain, there wasn't really a time of year that let up its downpour.

“This whole year was wet,” Hefferan said.
