Butler County Prison handed over an undocumented immigrant to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after a judge sentenced her to a minimum of nine months in jail for burglary.

After state police arrested Monica Coria-Olvera of Mexico City last year for her role in a home burglary ring, she was detained in Butler County Prison on March 22. Before Coria-Olvera’s guilty plea, President Judge Thomas Doerr denied her request in September 2018 for a bond to be set, keeping her in the jail. At the time, authorities were worried that if Coria-Olvera was released, she would just be detained by the federal government and deported.

For her time spent in jail, Doerr granted her credit for time served during her sentencing Dec. 13.

Coria-Olvera was released from the jail on Dec. 14 into immigration custody.
