Online video gets student arrested

JEFFERSON TWP — A South Butler School District student who posted a video to social media showing him firing repeated rounds from a weapon with the caption “Training for prom walk” has been arrested.

Police arrested the student after the video was posted overnight Sunday night.

David Foley, South Butler School District superintendent, could not give the student's name, grade or age on Monday morning, but verified that the video, shown on a Cabot Facebook page, was the threat in question.

The student's name Jason Bowen, 18, according to Middlesex Township Police Department documents.

Foley said the district was placed on modified lockdown because district officials were alerted of the threat in the overnight hours by police.

“We wanted to make sure the district administration and school police had an opportunity to talk through the incident,” Foley said.

He said because of the lockdown, no visitors would be permitted on campus on Monday.

“The doors are always locked, but until more information (emerges) and we're confident with the investigation and everything is buttoned up, we wanted to not have visitors coming into the buildings,” Foley said.

School staff and faculty received a message regarding the threat upon their arrival on Monday morning, Foley said.

He would not comment on whether any other students are involved in the threat.

Bowen is currently in Butler County Prison with a $25,000 bail.
