Catherine M. Swartzlander

Catherine M. Swartzlander, 92, of Butler, died Dec. 19 surrounded by her family in Concordia at the Orchard in Butler.

Born Saturday, Oct. 2, 1926, in Kittanning, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Olszak and the late Pearl Sobzak Olszak.

She worked at Bon Ton for 15 years, starting when the store opened in 1981 until she retired in 1996. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Coylesville, Fenelton, Pa.

She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, baking and gardening.

She is survived by her son, Theodore A. (Deborah) Swartzlander of Butler; two daughters, Katherine Harrison (Gerald) of Fenelton and Judy (Russ) Groose of Naples, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, John (Caroline) Olszak; and her sister, Cecilia Edwards of Butler.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Swartzlander Sr., who died Friday, May 10, 1974; her brothers, Frank Olszak and Andrew Olszak; her sisters, Mary Ann, Martha and Gertrude; and her son, Richard Swartzlander Jr.

SWARTZLANDER — There is no public visitation for Catherine M. Swartzlander, who died Wednesday Dec. 19, 2018.Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial to be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Coylesville, Fenelton, Pa., officiated by Father Ward Stakem.
