Donald Bernard Greenway

Donald Bernard Greenway

Donald Bernard Greenway, 84, of Slippery Rock died Friday at the Kline Hospice House in Mount Airy, Md.

He was the son of the late Kenneth B. Greenway and Gilda Pearl McDeavitt Greenway.

Don was married to Margaret Lillian Kneiss Greenway, who preceded him in death on Nov. 1, 2015.

Don passed through the pearly gates with his beloved daughter, Pam Nicholson. Don protected his children through his journey.

Don had the opportunity to serve and protect five U.S. presidents as a member of the U.S. Secret Service Detail. Don took pride in his career and always said the secrets would go with him to the grave.

He became a master Mason in 1965.

Don was active as a volunteer in his community and never asked for recognition as he was always a humble man. Don believed in giving back to the community. Any chance to volunteer he would, including playing Santa to the underprivileged children, originating a fishing tournament and serving as a volunteer for the Salvation Army for many years. He was a volunteer event coordinator for the Police Association in Washington D.C., and volunteered for the Good Fellows and the Shriners.

Don had a unique sense of humor that kept the family in stitches. In the last four years, he was always offering the staff and anyone who visited a kiss, that is a Hershey chocolate candy kiss. Don was known for his signature cowboy hat and always looking quite dapper in it.

He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Laurie Roberts and her husband, Ronald, of Jefferson, Md., and Amy Wendorf of Slippery Rock; his sons, Donald Bradley Greenway of Hagerstown, Md., and Daniel Greenway of Slippery Rock; nine grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, David, Crystal, Joseph, Kasey, Justin, Lisa and Jacob; four great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; his aunts, Bertha Stewart and Leah McDeavitt; his many brothers and sisters-in-law; and his nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and his daughter, Pamela, who passed away on Jan. 25, 2019, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and John Greenway.
