EMS employee suspended, accused of recording women in restroom
CRANBERRY TWP — Township EMS officials said they are cooperating with the township police department in a case involving an employee accused of secretly recording women in the station's rest room.
On Tuesday, Matthew T. Leonard, 37, of Cranberry Township was charged with one felony count each of intercept communications and criminal use of a communication facility and two misdemeanor counts of invasion of privacy. He was arraigned late Tuesday and released on a recognizance bond, according to court documents.
A Feb. 22 preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge David Kovach.
In the meantime, Leonard has been suspended without pay by the EMS department, pending the investigation. A statement from the department directs all questions to the police department, which investigated the case and filed charges Tuesday.
“The Cranberry Township EMS is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our employees and community,” the statement reads.
Officials at the department Wednesday said they could not comment further on the matter, as the investigation is ongoing.
According to court documents, a woman employed by the department allegedly found a cell phone partially concealed on the floor behind a trash can in the women's rest room in the building Jan. 24. Leonard told police the phone belonged to him.
Police searched Leonard's phone and computer and allegedly found videos of four different victims.
