EC officials waiting on last set of tests before lift water boil advisory

EVANS CITY — Water and Sewer Authority officials are hoping to lift a water boil advisory Saturday evening once the final set of tests are in.

This comes nearly a week after two water breaks caused outages for borough residents and put a boil order in place in the time since.

The two water main breaks occurred Feb. 3, with one quickly mended Monday. However, the second break took several days to fix on Main Street. Crews eventually found and patched the break Thursday, and could then begin analyzing samples.

“The first (set of) samples came back great,” said Laura Kamienski, office manager at the authority.

Once the second set is received, the authority can lift the advisory, assuming everything comes back clean. Each set can contain a number of tests.

After an advisory is issued, the Department of Environmental Protection requires at least three tests come back clean. Additionally, samples are from several different sites and must be taken at different times, so testing can take a few days.

Kamienski said he appreciated the town's patience. “I want to thank the town for being so patient and great during this,” she said. “We've worked hard to get everything back up and running.”

Kamienski said the testing process is taking a normal amount of time, and he does not expect any delays.
