Daniel C. Maguire Jr.

On Monday, Daniel C. Maguire Jr. lost his battle to PTSD.

Born in Binghamton N.Y., to Daniel C. Maguire Sr., and Heidi Morris, Dan attended Butler High School then excitedly enlisted in the U.S. Army.

Serving two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Dan was riding in a Stryker on Oct. 21, 2007, when the vehicle hit an IED. Specialist Dan Maguire was sent to Walter Reed Hospital for recovery, finally being discharged on Oct. 22, 2009. He was most proud of his Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.

Dan enjoyed building vaping coils, was passionate for learning about history and was well-known for his useless facts.

With his sons, he enjoyed discussing dinosaurs and outer space. His daughters had him wrapped around their fingers.

Daniel was preceded in death by his first wife, Whitney Jo (O'Brien) Maguire, who died on Sept. 23, 2008.

Surviving Dan are his wife, Crystal G. (Goebel) Maguire of Butler; his mother, Heidi (John Schlotter) of Butler; his father, Daniel C. (Bernadette) Maguire Sr. of Ohio; his brother, Thomas (Ashley Donnelly) Maguire of Butler; his closest friend referred to as a brother, Steven Hudson of Butler; and his six children, Liam, Lucas, Jasper, Declan, Pacey and Ellarie Maguire.

If Daniel could speak to you, the reader right now, he would love to say, “PTSD does not make you weak or any less of a person, it is a battle that never goes away inside you.”
