Butler man allegedly sold substance to informant

Donald Dobson
He's in jail on $100K bail

A Butler man is behind bars on $100,000 bail for allegedly selling heroin that actually contained fentanyl to a police informant last fall in the city's Island neighborhood.

Butler police arrested 43-year-old Donald J. Dobson around 6:15 p.m. Thursday at his home on Walker Avenue.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Dobson on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

The charges stem from a Butler County Task Force investigation that included a controlled drug buy, authorities said.

According to court documents, Dobson sold an unspecified number of stamp bags supposedly containing heroin on Oct. 16 to an informant on Upper Shore Street.

Analysis by the state police crime lab, however, determined the bags only contained fentanyl.

District Judge William Fullerton issued an arrest warrant for Dobson Thursday. Police picked him up on that warrant.

At his arraignment, the defendant told Stoughton that he is single, unemployed and has three children.

His preliminary hearing was tentatively scheduled March 18 at Fullerton's office in Butler.

Butler County court records showed Dobson is already awaiting trial on a 2018 misdemeanor drug possession case.
