Authorities searching for escaped teen

A 16-year-old Fayette County boy remains on the loose after escaping this weekend from Summit Academy in Summit Township.

Authorities report Branson Cramer of Smithfield climbed out a window and fled the reform school on Herman Road about 10 p.m. Saturday.

School officials sent out a text notification that the student escaped alerting nearby residents, suggesting they lock their doors and cars, and discouraging interaction with the student.

State police and facility staff searched for the boy but to no avail overnight Saturday and into Sunday.

Cramer is described as white, 5 feet-10 inches tall, 140 pounds with brown eyes and dark brown hair “worn longer,” according to a police report. He also has tattoo on his right shoulder.

He was last seen wearing an orange jumpsuit. Police said he fled the facility without shoes and had no jacket.

A Summit Academy spokesman did not have any additional information this morning.

Summit Academy is a private, residential program for boys and young men, ages 14 to 19, who committed juvenile and adult criminal offenses.
