Mildred Josephine McWhinney

Mildred Josephine McWhinney, 83, of Slippery Rock passed away on Monday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born Jan. 25, 1936, in Pittsburgh, to Anthony and Joanna Cerneka.

She married Merle McWhinney on Oct. 23, 1965, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 2015.

Millie had been a nurse's aide and had worked at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She was an active member of her local community. She enjoyed the company of a large network of friends, including her Spruce Wood family, Slippery Rock Campground family, Slippery Rock Senior Care and Crossroads Baptist Church families.

She was very positive and upbeat and brought great joy and energy to all that she met.

Millie is survived by her daughter, Linda A. Guthrie and her husband, Richard, of Littleton, Colo.; two sons, James E. McWhinney and his wife, Dawn, of Phoenixville, Pa., and Daniel M. McWhinney of Boulder, Colo.; her granddaughters, Jamie Pillete, and Christine and Amy Hyatt; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Debra Hyatt; and a grandson, Ryan McNeal Cole.

MCWHINNEY — Funeral services for Mildred Josephine McWhinney, who died Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, with Pastor Martin Miller presiding.Following this service at the funeral home, family and friends will then gather for refreshments at Crossroads Baptist Church of Slippery Rock, 302 Harmony Road, Slippery Rock.Interment will be at Penn Lincoln Memorial Park in Irwin.Memorial contributions may be given to Crossroads Baptist Church.
