Body discovered in the yard of a home on East Brady Street
Butler police are investigating after a passerby reported a man's body this morning in the yard at a home on the 100 block of East Brady Street.
Capt. Jim Hollobaugh police were called at 4:08 a.m. and have tentatively identified the man from the state identification card that was in a wallet he had been carrying. Authorities declined to release the name.
The photo on the identification card appears to be the man, according to police. The ID lists the man as 21 years old with a Slippery Rock address.
Hollobaugh said foul play was not immediately suspected. He noted the body had scuffs marks, including on the arms.
“The injuries were consistent with someone taking a fall,” he said.
The body was dressed in blue jeans, a sweatshirt, new tennis shoes and a ball cap. Authorities also found a cell phone near the body.
Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced the man dead about 6:10 a.m. and removed the body from the yard of the house, which appeared to be vacant.
An autopsy was planned for between 5 and 6 p.m. today, Barr said.
Officers with the state police forensic services unit assisted at the scene.
The Butler Eagle will update this story as more details become available.
