JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley School Board approved 10 student trips and meal prices at Monday night's meeting.

Trips scheduled during the 2019-20 school year were approved for the Academic Decathlon, language and culinary-focused trips, cheerleading and dance, orchestra and three JROTC trips.

The board also appointed NexTier Bank as depository and treasurer for the 2019-20 school year and approved cafeteria meal prices for the next school year to be $1.95 for breakfast, $2.75 for elementary lunch and $3 for secondary lunch with milk at $0.75.

Board member Fred Peterson said ensuring cafeteria meal prices are affordable for students is of the utmost importance because “there is hunger in the Seneca Valley School District.” He noted that there are some students who go home hungry for the weekend, and it is a priority for the district to provide as much as it can for its students.

The board also approved the renewal of contracts with Pediatric Services of America to provide student health care services through June 30, 2020; the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV Intergovernmental renewal for the upcoming academic year; the Midwestern Intermediate Unit IV for an Early Intervention classroom housed at Rowan Elementary School; Angela Popa to provide administrative services for ACCESS; the DePaul School for Hearing and Speech for professional services; and a five-year agreement with Allegheny Health Network to provide athletic training services as well as medical assistance services performed in connection with the school's athletic program.

At the meeting's conclusion, board and community members gave a standing ovation to Kay Hoch, who has served as the board's secretary for about six years and has worked with the district for more than 10 years. She is leaving at the end of the month.
