6 Butler High students receive Vogeley scholarship awards

Butler High School senior Jenna Nicole Kriley has been selected as recipient of the 37th annual Theodore K. Vogeley Scholarship.

Jenna was chosen from 41 applicants, 22 of whom were interviewed.

The scholarship will cover full tuition, fixed fees, room and board, and books.

Jenna is the daughter of David and Kimberly Kriley. She plans to attend Slippery Rock University to major in biology specialized in pre-medicine.

The number of Vogeley recipients varies each year due to interest earned on the trust and the costs of the students’ colleges or universities. A committee of three is responsible for selecting the recipients.

Due to the availability of remaining funds, two other students, Chad Meier and Sophia Lex, will receive a four-year fixed-amount scholarship and three students will receive one-time grants.

Chad is the son of Peter and Vonna Meier of Fenelton. He plans to attend MIT as a mechanical engineer.

Sophia is the daughter of Jonathan and Trudy Lex of Butler.

She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh as a civil and environmental engineering major.

The recipients of the one-time grants are: Cyril Sheptak, $3,500; Alexander Deemer, $6,500; and Elizabeth Simms, $10,000.

Cyril is the son of Stephen and Marian Sheptak of Butler. He plans to be an economics and mathematics major at Wake Forest University.

Alexander is the son of Rob and Kelly Deemer of Connoquenessing. He plans to attend Gannon University as a mechanical engineering major.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Mary and Paul Simms of Butler. She plans to attend Davidson College as a biomedical engineering-premedicine major.
