Butler School Board discusses water problems

The center of a four-square court at Butler Middle School dropped about six inches during this week's rain and is now holding a pool of water.

During a particularly wet week for the county, the Butler School Board Thursday morning talked about ways to manage and remove excess water.

Butler Middle School, Superintendent Brian White said, is suffering some problems dealing with all the rain. A four-square ball court was damaged, as its middle has dropped about six inches in just a few days and is holding a pool of water. That, and a sub-basement level custodial and mechanical room has gathered more than three feet of water.

The board also addressed another water issue: replacing more than 50 storm inlets scattered around the two high school campuses. Directors approved a $155,000 contract with Mahoning Builders of New Castle for the work.
