Wrigley finds home at Butler Country Club
PENN TWP — Caroline Wrigley was smitten with the layout and the flatness of the course.
It was one of the reasons why she became a member of the Butler Country Club two years ago.
“It's a great course,” Wrigley said. “It's really helped my game. I think my game is in a really good place right now.”
Wrigley, a recent North Allegheny graduate, proved that Monday and Tuesday, firing a 2-over 144 to win the 2019 Junior Girls Championship at Hershey Country Club (East).
Wrigley and her family had been members at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh before Wrigley played the Butler Country Club course for the first time.
She was sold.
“We weren't really looking to change,” Wrigley said. “But I just really loved the golf course.”
Wrigley has loved golf since she was 10.
It didn't take her long to discover she was a natural at the game.
“Once my scores started getting a little lower, I started loving it a lot more,” Wrigley said, laughing.
Wrigley finally broke through at the PIAA Girls Golf Championships this fall, winning the Class 3A state title by an eye-opening seven strokes at Heritage Hills Resort.
She was consistent in that tournament as well, firing a 74 in the first round and a 73 in the second round.
Wrigley shot a 71-73 to win the junior girls title in Hershey.
The key to her game has always been here ability to save par.
Wrigley will have plenty of more opportunities to play soon.
The Furman University recruit will play at the Girls Junior PGA Championship at Keney Park Golf Course in Windor, Conn., beginning July 9 as well as some other big events all over the region.
“I'm going to be pretty busy,” she said.
